"Is Your Son a Computer Hacker?"

This article was linked to me today, and I felt that I would post it here. Apprently, the article is written by a father of six, one of which develops into a computer hacker. When I read the article I actually couldn't tell, if this was some joke, or for real. For one thing, who ever is writting the article, has there facts screwed up. Here's an excerpt:

"If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD", this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make inferior, "knock-off" copies of American processor chips. They use child labor extensively in their third world sweatshops, and they deliberately disable the security features that American processor makers, such as Intel, use to prevent hacking. AMD chips are never sold in stores, and you will most likely be told that you have to order them from internet sites. Do not buy this chip! This is one request that you must refuse your son, if you are to have any hope of raising him well."

For one thing, AMD, is not a third-world based company, they are completely American. The sweatshop comment is equally false, due to the fact that a standard sweatshop would not have the percision tools required to build such things. Unless you first trained the workers, and supplied the equipment, which is highly unlike. This snippit taken from wikipedia, AMD's main microprocessor manufacturing and design facilities are located in Dresden, Germany. The rest of the microprocessor manufacturing is in Taiwan made by third-party manufacturers under strict license from AMD.", informs us differently. He also states that AMD products are not sold in stores, this is also false. For one thing, they are sold in most retailers, that sell off any computer hardware. For instance, you can take almost any retailer, like Futureshop, or Staples. Its not only the father's misinformed being that agitates me. Its the watching, and monitering of everything his children do.

"I attend their teen parties with them to ensure no drinking or alcohol is on the premises. I keep a fatherly eye on the CDs they listen to and the shows they watch, the company they keep and the books they read. You could say I'm a model parent." He is far from the model parent. I do agree with watching over them, but monitering every little thing, thats a bit overboard. I would go as far to say, this guy is stalking he children, not watching over them.

Thats all i'll say about this article, the rest is up to you to contemplate. I suggest reading it, because if anything, it will entertain you somewhat. And if this article is indeed true, looks like I have six more people to include in my prayers tonight.
