I came accross this article as I was glancing through my Digg feed. The article focuses on Dreamcast games that are still relevant in relation to today's games. Thanks for RacketBoy for writing up such as decisive article.

Its decided, I'm buying PSU

After playing around 5 hours on the beta, I realized that I thoroughly enjoy the game. This enjoyment is probably half derived from my love for the GCN version that I played a huge amount back when it came out. The community interaction is much improved in Phantasy Star Universe, and it is much easier to communicate with others. There has been a insane amount of content added compared to what was avaiable to the player in Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2.

  • More customization with characters (eye colour, voice of your character, shoes, etc..)
  • Synthesize your own item
  • Customize your own room
  • Use vehicles to get to desired destination faster (Variety of vehicles; Floader, Striker, Lunga, G-Flyer, PPT)
  • Choose from over 20 categories and 200 varieties of weapons and powerful photon arts to put together a varied arsenal for combat

There is so much new stuff added to this game, it makes it hard for me to believe this is still a Phantasy Star game that I am playing. In a good way of course. If you haven't given this game a try yet, I strongly urge you to do so. There are only 3 2 days left, seeing that there is a 24 hour maintenance period for XBL coming up.

Phantasy Star Universe is slated to release on October 24th. Remember, be sure to check this out before the beta expires on October 18th.

PSU, When will I get to play?

Well, considering SEGA only setup so much server space, it is becoming increasingly difficult impossible to get into the server to play. I am sick of recieving "Connection to Phantasy Star Universe server has failed" so I simply stopped trying.

Yesterday, I played for a good 2 hours, and the game seems to play alright, despite the lag. I don't mind the frequent lagging of nearby characters, but when the complete server chokes for 10 seconds, that is simply not cool. The game plays similar to its predecessor, but some new mechanics have been added. Dual wielding is one of the first new incorporations that I noticed, and was quite pleased with. Overall my expierence so far has not been entirely negative, although I am getting fairly pissed off with the frequent server failure.

PS: Right now I am trying to connect to the servers.

PSU Beta this weekend

Today, SEGA announced that the PSU beta would not be hitting the marketplace today as planned, but at a later date. SEGA has announced that it will be hopping onto the marketplace this weekened. As stated before the download will be available for a total of two days, and the beta will run till October 18th. This will only give players about 4-5 days to play the beta, as opposed to the week that was intially announced.

"The Phantasy Star Universe Xbox 360 Open Beta will be uploaded to Xbox Live Marketplace this weekend, so get ready to download and play with your friends! In order to give more people the opportunity to enjoy this exclusive free beta, with extended uninterrupted weekend play, the multiplayer open beta will be available for download for two days only, and will be playable through to Oct. 18."

Phantasy Star Universe Beta Tomorrow

There is a free beta for the upcoming MMO Phantasy Star Universe, which you can snatch off the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow, October 11th through October 12th. You need a XBL Gold account to participate, and the beta will be ongoing for a whole week.

Below are a list of suggestions from Sega to get started on your conquest:

  • Create Your Character - Construct the perfect avatar with the robust Character Creation tool that enables players to change their character’s body shape and dimensions, hairstyle and color, facial structure and features, and more!
  • Meet New People - Head out to the lobby and meet new people! Visit various shops for weapons, clothing and other items and then join or create a squad to embark on missions with new friends.
  • Explore the Universe - With three expansive planets to explore, discover the adventures that lie ahead on Parum, Neudaiz, and Moatoob.
  • My Room - Create your personal online space by adding items and elements from your adventures, and decorating your My Room with various themes and wallpaper. In here, your Partner Machinery is able to create new weapons and items for you to use in battle, trade with friends, or sell for a profit. Players can also exchange Partner Cards and visit friends in their My Room!
  • Customize Your Look - Head to one of the various Clothing or Parts shops located across the Universe and outfit your character with the newest styles.
Try Different Job Types - Speak to the Guardian Representative located on the fifth floor of the Guardian’s Colony to freely change between the three class types: Hunter, Ranger, and Force.
  • Create and Sell Items - Craft items from the base materials you find during your adventures using your Partner Machinery. You can even sell these items within player-run Shops!

This is quite exciting news, and good news at that. I loved Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2, and PSU seems to be considerably better than its predecessor. This game actually seems to be new content, instead of the previous release of PSO Episode 1 and 2, which was basically a rehash of the DC version, with a new campaign added.

Bought a Dreamcast

Yesterday, I finally got a Dreamcast after some time of being without one. I bought it for only $30CDN, and it included the following:

Dreamcast Console
A/V Hookups
2 1st Party Dreamcast Controllers
2 VMU's

Games included were as follows:

Maken X
Deep Fighter
E.G.G: Elemental Gimmick Gear
Toy Commander
Time Stalkers
UFC: Ultimate Fighting Competition
RoomMania #203 (Some Japanese import)

For $30, I thought it to be a steal. Anyways, currently I am playing through Maken X, and will proably run through E.G.G.

Sega's Virtual Console Lineup [Wii]

Recently I posted a general list of what was being brought to the Virtual Console for Wii; however, on the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) forums, a SEGA list has been compiled. The list is as follows:

  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Altered Beast
  • Toe Jam & Earl
  • Golden Axe
  • Columns
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ristar
This is great news, and I always like seeing SEGA pushing there content, because I love there games.
