Flee Market Shannaigans

Well, today I made my weekly trip to the flee market, and game back with two NES carts. One being Ninja Gaiden and the other being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Ninja Gaiden is great. I played it for over an hour, and situated my self with the controls. For two buttons, and the d-pad (excluding the start and select buttons) its surprisingly more complex then other NES games I have played. It seems like an extremly solid 2-D platformer. It has a Megaman feel, except more distinct. The player has the ability to cling to walls, to get to hard to reach places, and the player is also able to pick up weapons. Weapons can vary, from small shurikans to a flame spell which is shot diagonally in the air. Overall, extremly complex play for a NES title. I am very eager to pick up the other two carts, Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was actually the game I was searching for there, seeing I have played it before and its a great game through and through; however, Ninja Gaiden is much better. Comparing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Ninja Gaiden is similar to comparing apples and oranges. Anyways, back to the main topic, TMNT is a great beat-'Em-up. It has an interesting approach, not commonly found in beat-'Em-up's. It offers a interesting stage system, in which you enter the stage of your own will. These stages are in the form of open manholes leading into the sewers, or open doorways to warehouse. The warehouses, usually offer some collectable health, or beneficial items, while the sewers usually act as a transport to an area. Both the sewers and the warehouses are packed with enemies, so one must take there time when passing through.
