Peter Moore: 360 shortage is not a conspiracy

We here at Joystiq have been guilty of playing the role of conspiracy theorists, questioning whether the apparent Xbox 360 shortage this holiday season is actually a deliberate scheme to boost interest in the console. Granted, any shortage could also be an inevitable side effect of launching a console simultaneously in three major regions of the world (US, Japan, and Europe), but who are we to say Microsoft is not omnipotent?

Peter Moore has gone on the record today to say that there is no deliberate plot to spur demand via supposed Xbox 360 shortages. In his words, “I’ve seen all of the conspiracy theories. Somewhere in Roswell, New Mexico, we have a hangar where we’re stockpiling it, creating false shortages. No.”

So, until we find that elusive hangar, Xbox 360’s are still going to be a scarce commodity this holiday season. With the US launch date only days away, only time will tell just how many units will truly be available.
